THE APPEARANCE OF VEGETABLE-TANNED LEATHER
The process of vegetable tanning uses organic material and natural tannins derived from the barks, leaves and branches of trees and plants. This results in colors that are rich and deep in natural earthy tones such as browns, beiges, yellows and reds. The fibers of the animal hide used for the leather are visible in the finished product, lending an authenticity and personality to the leather that makes it more unique.
Vegetable-tanned leather also has a distinctively sweet, woody fragrance that is normally associated with leather. Each piece made with this leather has unique shades and nuances, which are a mark of genuineness. The lack of consistency in color and tone is not a defect. Instead, it’s a characteristic of natural tanning processes.
VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER WITH NATURAL MARKINGS
The process of dyeing the leather in vegetable tannins keeps its natural texture intact. Each leather reflects the animal’s life by showing natural markings such as scars, stretch marks, insect bites, and follicles.
Vegetable-tanned leather has that “perfectly imperfect” look due to its authentic nature. It’s normal to see small markings and scars on our products. We believe that these imperfections should be embraced; they add even more character and individuality to the leather!
LEATHER AGING
Vegetable-tanned leather is characterized with a smooth and firm surface with rich beautiful colors. The leather will gradually develop a patina with exposure to natural elements like sun, water, and oil from the skin. In the world of leather, patina is an indicator of quality and aesthetic beauty, something that enhances the perceived value of a leather product.
